Hollyweed? No, Hollywood

Los Angeles residents must have thought they’d been smoking something when they woke up to a new year to find their famous Hollywood sign had been changed to read ‘Hollyweed’.

Security cameras caught a vandal, dressed in black, scaling the sign in the middle of the night, covering the Os in huge tarpaulins so they looked like Es.

The Hollywood Sign Trust, which maintains the world-famous, 50-foot-tall landmark, is to look at boosting security on the back of the incident, which is being investigated by police.

It’s thought the prank could be a knowing reference to voters in California approving a law which means the recreational use of marijuana will become legal from 2018.

However, it’s not the first time the sign has been changed to read Hollyweed. A college student first did it on January 1 1976, exactly 41 years to the day.

The original sign was first put up in 1923 and read Hollywoodland to promote a housing development. However, the last four letters deteriorated and were removed in the 1940s.

Where did you sleep last night? Ikea Westfield?

Have you been sneaking into Ikea stores for cheeky sleepovers with your mates? Well stop it. Just stop it.

It’s a thing, apparently.

Getting together with your pals, grabbing a few sleeping bags, crisps, popcorn and drink and heading to your nearest retail park to, y’know, bed down for the night next to (or maybe in) a Gjora or Malm.

Ikea sleepovers have become something of a YouTube craze and, recently, there have been around ten incidents in Britain the US, Canada, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, Japan, Australia and Poland.

Typically the pranksters hide in wardrobes at closing time before coming out to have a spot of fun.

Problem is, it’s illegal and potentially unsafe and the Swedish furniture firm is now calling on youngsters to give it a rest.

Ikea spokeswoman Johanna Iritz said the company is taking the incidents seriously because it can’t guarantee the safety of those involved. Anyone trying the stunt could face arrest.

Two Belgian vloggers are thought to have started the craze with their video of a 12-hour stay in the store.

Ikea might be partly to blame though. In 2011 it ran an event called ‘Big Sleepover’ in which lucky fans of the furniture giant spent a “relaxing night surrounded by the retailer’s products”.

“Ikea has listened to what its customers want and given it to them – a night in an Ikea store. Nearly 100,000 people signed up to a Facebook group called “I wanna have a sleepover in Ikea.”

The Five Weirdest Dating Sites on the Internet, Including Clowns and Adult Babies

Screen shot 2015-06-26 at 12.48.38

Whether by app or by website, the world of online dating has grown immeasurably in recent years. And naturally, when a phenomenon grows at pace, very strange sub cultures tend to be spawned within it.

For online daters this comes in the form of very niche, extremely specific sites dedicated to pairing people with peculiar fetishes and hard-to-satisfy desires. Here is a run down of five of the weirdest dating sites on the internet:

Screen shot 2015-06-26 at 12.38.41Ugly Schmucks

Ugly Schmucks is relatively straightforward – it is a dating website that is designed purely for ugly people, like reverse eugenics, if you will. For those fed up of being swiped to the left on Tinder or having their monstrous mugshot quickly passed by on dating sites, they can decide to find someone ‘in their own league’. It is quite a sweet idea, but the moment you create an account of Ugly Schmucks, one would imagine, is somewhat of a low point in one’s life.

Trek Passions

It stands to reason that Star Trek fans are horribly single, so naturally there is a dating site just for the Trekkies: Trek Passions. Inevitably the website uses the tagline ‘Love Long and Prosper’. No official figures have been released but is probably safe to assume that the ratio of men to women on this site is similar to what you would see at a pub darts match.

SWFA

Singles with Food Allergies, or SWFA, is, as you would guess, designed for fussy eaters. After all, they often say the way to your partner’s heart is through their stomach (that being good food, not some sort of DIY home surgery). So for those who finds their allergies are holding them back, this could be the place for them.

DiaperMates

Now this one is strange. DiaperMates has been created to fill the nichest of niches – it is for adult babies: grown adults who like to wear diapers and soil themselves while refusing to eat from anything but a spoon that makes aeroplanes noises. If that’s your bag, sign up today!

Clown Dating

And finally, there is Clown Dating. Some people find clowns terrifying, many are indifferent towards them. But there a few people, a small questionable minority, who see a red nose and crazy hair and find their pulse starting to race. “Everyone loves a clown, let a clown love you,” the website reads, which sounds like the tagline for a sinister horror film featuring rapey clowns… #JustSaying.

Shocking Footage Shows the Moment a Man Poos in the Middle of a Public Arcade

Screen shot 2015-06-24 at 08.38.33

Gambling can be a dangerous, filthy habit. And if you were ever in any doubt of that, new footage has emerged that proves just how dirty this addiction can be.

CCTV cameras have captured the moment a man was so addicted to playing on slot machines that he couldn’t even tear himself away to go to the toilet.

The exact identity of the man in question or where the scene takes place is not known, but what is perfectly clear is that he has a serious gambling problem. As you can see from the video below, the man gets the call of nature while playing on the machine but chooses not to part company with the game, instead walking a solitary few paces to the corner of the public amusement arcade, dropping his trousers and ridding himself of whatever bowel movements were bothering him.

To make the already shocking scene even more startling, having returned to the slot machine the mystery gamer realises there is still more to come. Again, rather than searching out the nearest toilet or even returning back to the corner he used the first time he simply squats right next to where he is playing and plops out another bit.

Was that enough to make the man sheepishly sneak out of the arcade? No, he kept button bashing away. Watch the footage below:

Best Tweets: Game of Thrones Fans Abuse ‘Olly’ Actor after Season Five Finale

Hell hath no fury like a Game of Thrones fan whose favourite character has just died. Don’t believe us? Just take a look at the reaction to the hit show’s season five finale.

So, it was traumatic viewing for anyone with even just a partial interest in the series. Stannis’ died; Sansa and Reek jumped off a wall in a bid to escape from Winterfell dead or alive; Arya brutally murdered Meryn Trant before going blind; Myrcella died in Jamie’s arms; Cersei did the ultimate walk of shame (naked, obviously) before being greeted by the mute Mountain; Daenerys comes across a giant hoard of Dothraki; and then, as if all that was not enough, Jon Snow is stabbed (a lot) by his fellow men of the Night’s Watch for being a ‘traitor’.

Even a relatively uneventful episode of Game of Thrones will trigger a mass onslaught of social media activity, so with season five episode 10 arguably being the most outrageously drama-packed 60 minutes to date, it is no surprise that Twitter almost went into a melt down.

But through all the memes and the questionable hashtags on display, our favourite form of venting was the tweets sent to Olly (Brenock O’Connor), who was responsible for luring the beloved Jon Snow (once Olly’s friend and mentor) to his death, before himself delivering the final stab wound to the chest.

As we said, hell hath no fury like a Game of Thrones fan whose favourite character has just died. And below is the evidence; take a look at some of the tweets poor Brenock received after the show aired. To be fair, the young actor took the abuse well, retweeting his favourites and laughing along with the fury his character’s betrayal had caused…

It Was a Nice Day for a White Wedding… Thousands Marry in Mass Ceremony

wedding-322034_640

Around 3,800 couples tied the knot this week at a ceremony organised by the Unification Church in Gapyeong, South Korea.

Around 800 of the couples had been ‘matched’ at an engagement ceremony only a few days earlier, before exchanging vows at the Cheongshim World Peace Centre on Tuesday.

The brides had no fear of upstaging each other, as all the ‘Moonie’ couples were dressed in identical white dresses and dark suits.

The mass wedding attracted thousands of couples from 50 different countries.

A Canadian bride, Nadia Famularo said: “It’s exciting. It’s overwhelming. It’s a really happy day.”

The Unification Church was founded by Reverend Sun Myung Moon (pictured below) in Seoul in 1954. Moon presided over his first ‘blessing ceremony’ in 1961, after personally matching each couple.

Although matchmaking duties are largely left to the couples, ‘Moonies’ are still expected to abide by Moon’s strict teachings. Brides-to-be must confirm under oath that they are virgins and wild wedding nights are prohibited – couples must abstain from sex until 40 days after the ceremony.

This week’s event is the third since Sun Myung Moon’s death and was presided over by his widow, Hak Ja Han.

Can You Guess the Colour of this Dress?

The dress that broke the internet: Blue and black or white and gold?

Recently, you may have heard of the dress that’s got everyone questioning their colour vision. Splashed all over the internet, the current trend is to decipher whether it is a combination of blue and black or bizarrely, white and gold.

Social media users have been divided over one half’s insistence that it is quite clearly blue material with black detailed stitching, yet somehow the other half are adamant that they can see heavenly hues of angelic white and divine gold. Teams have even been created for each opposing side – Blue and Black versus White and Gold.

The debate has caused such a stir that it has reached celebrity territory, with singer Taylor Swift seeing black and blue and actress Anna Kendrick insisting that its white and gold.

The main question undoubtedly is, what is causing such a colour split? Are some of us colour blind and don’t even realise it?

Let me tell you a secret – the original dress has indeed been confirmed as blue and black. Scientific explanations have attempted to explain why no one can agree on the colour – it is all to do with the context of the dress and the lighting in which our eyes view it.

Tape, sparrows, fireworks: Chinese children play real-life Angry Birds

Angry_birds_wallpaper_3

Parents have long scaremongered that video games will have dangerous effects on children and, unfortunately, their fears have been confirmed.
In China a group of children have been found playing a real-life version of Angry Birds, the hit app that has proven so popular around the world that it even has its own film in the offing.

In a rather gruesome twist, school kids in a park in the Shaanxi Province of China strapped small birds such as sparrows onto fireworks and unleashed the rocket-propelled feather balls at nearby objects.

Huang Chu, 45, came across the carnage in the park and reported what was happening to local police. The kids ran away as he approached but left behind one rocket that had not gone off, with a bird still helplessly stuck to the side of the firework.

Chu told Chinese media: “I spoke to an older boy who told me that the others had been playing Angry Birds, shooting the fireworks across the park and pretending to be playing the video game of the same name.

“I didn’t report it to police because it is illegal. However I posted images online because people should be aware of what’s happening and maybe it will increase pressure for animal rights laws to finally be introduced here in China.”

Angry Birds might have been a fictional game but in China right now there are certainly some angry birds because of it.

A slice of bad luck: Girl sacked over Twitter before even starting new job in pizza shop

Social media and work don’t always mix that well, as one girl in America found out all too abruptly.

Cella took to Twitter on the eve of her first day at a new job working in a pizzeria to tell everyone just how much she was looking forward to it. As you can see from the image below, she was not exactly brimming with excitement.

However, as a slice of bad luck, her tweet was seen by Pizza shop owner Robert Waple, who quickly alleviated Cella’s worries.

Cella, who tweets under the Twitter handle @Cellla_, is now the proud owner of two shiny new records: she is both the first person to lose a job before even starting it, and the first person to be given the sack over Twitter. Not only that but she has risen to internet stardom as a result of the event.

When asked by another Twitter user what her job would have been that she was so not looking forward to, Mr Waple responded: “Working register, taking phone orders, making subs/salads. Eating free pizza. How hard would that have been?”

Mayweather Shows Off his Supercar Collection

How about this for an extraordinarily expensive car collection?

The US boxer Floyd Mayweather has taken to Twitter to show off his stable of supercars – and his private jet. The undefeated champion, who has topped the Forbes highest-paid sports stars in the world list in 2012, 2013, 2014, has built up an enviable collection including Bugattis and Porsches.

Pictured with the fighter are a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport and two Bugatti Veyrons, plus two Ferrari 458 spiders and a Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. A Porsche 911 Turbo S and a Lamborghini Aventador completed the line-up.

It’s estimated the cars are worth around $6 million and that’s before the value of his Gulfstream jet is taken into account.

The fastest and most expensive cars in the picture are the Bugattis. Top of the list is the Veyron Grand Sport, which a price tag of around $1.9 million – nearly as much as the private jet. The Veyrons sell for around $1.3 million (AUS $1.6 million) each, while the Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet is a relative bargain at $170,000.

Mayweather captioned the picture with ‘”Welcome to my toy world! Who wants to come out & play?”

The 37-year-old boxing star made a reported $105 million-plus in 2014 so he certainly has plenty of wealth to spend on high-spec luxury cars. Mayweather is estimated to be worth around $280 million.

He’s also recently shown off his valuable collections of shoes, sunglasses and watches via his Twitter account.
Mayweather is a five-division world champion and has won a total of 10 world titles.
